tokidoki for Onitsuka Tiger news
Perfect Blend Of Function And Fashion
Onitsuka Tiger is excited to announce an upcoming collaboration with tokidoki. Created by Italian artist Simone Legno, tokidoki is a colorful world of spritely characters that draws influence from Japanese art and culture. Tokidoki started as Legno’s personal web site to showcase his art but with the help of passionate business partners, has created a brand that appeals to a huge audience worldwide.
The partnership with Onitsuka Tiger will bring together two unique facets of Japanese culture. Onitsuka Tiger’s strong history of creating outstanding athletics products married with tokidoki’s modern interpretation of Japanese art will create the perfect blend of function and fashion.
Onitsuka Tiger will work with tokidoki to create two collections a year for the next two years, beginning in June 2008.
tokidoki obviously is expanding their brand. And they must have a deep Japanese hook to be able to collab with HK and now OT.
All the shoes are intricately designed, with tokidoki details throughout — from the clear soles (which feature panoramic, collage-style illustrations of iconic tokidoki characters like Sandy, the sassy green cactus and Mozarella, the blue-haired badass in the cow-print costume) to the inside lining, which also flaunts cool characters and colors.
The most prominent character, however, is a mischievous-loking tiger character with portruding fangs, which was created exclusively for the collection by tokidoki creator Simone Legno (the character will be retired after this run). The embroidered tiger character pops up on the shoes' uppers (for the mid-tops) or along the back of the shoe (for the lo-tops).
Oh, and every purchase comes with a matching plush tokidoki character dangling from a key chain.
$130. Available at Henri Bendel NYC in and Bloomingdale's. Visit http://www.onitsukatiger.com for more info and additional stores.
